PROJECT

The Twelfth Shirt.

A tribute to the Legion.

OVERVIEW

Designed in Rotterdam.

For Feyenoord and kit sponsor Castore, The Twelfth Shirt was developed, a special kit in honor of the Legion. Supporters were given the unique opportunity to contribute to the design. Out of approximately four thousand submissions, twelve shirts were selected, after which the fans chose the winning design through voting rounds.

I participated in this design competition and drew my inspiration directly from the city of Rotterdam. In my submission, I incorporated recognizable icons such as the Erasmus Bridge, the SS Rotterdam, and the iconic gnome ‘Buttplug’ as a visual tribute to the city and its supporters.

CHALLENGE

Bringing city, club and supporters together.

The challenge was to capture the identity of both Rotterdam and Feyenoord in one powerful shirt. The design needed to be recognizable to the Legion, yet remain aesthetically strong and wearable within the framework of an official kit. Using a color palette of green and gold, I sought that balance: green as a reference to Rotterdam, gold as a symbol of Feyenoord and the invaluable contribution of its supporters.

RESULT

United into one shirt.

My design reached the final selection round. Based on this selection, Feyenoord and Castore ultimately created The Twelfth Shirt. The final shirt symbolizes the power of co-creation between the club, supporters, and designers.
